The Macquarie River runs through the heart of Dubbo and there are a number of ways to enjoy the river.
1. Go for a walk or ride along the cycle tracks.
One of our favourite places to jump on the cycle track is at the bottom of Tamworth Street. From there you can cross the river and head out towards the zoo or head back towards the city centre.
2. Explore the river in a Kayak
During most school holidays and weekends in summer there is kayak hire available from Adventure Craft Hire. You can find them at the very south end of when you were a street at Ollie Robin’s oval right near the river. ph 0419 774 906
Here’s the link to Google Maps to Ollie Robin’s oval.
3. Have a picnic near the river.
The best access to the river for a picnic is probably from the west side of the river.
My pick would be Sir Roden Cutler Park, turn left as you’re heading out to the zoo. Here is a link to the Google map.
Otherwisehere’s the Lyons Park, in front of the Tallarook Motel near the Newell Highway on the corner of Alfred St and Stonehaven Ave. It has a small kids playground and some public toilets. Here is the link to the Google map for Lyons Park.
4. Have a game of frisbee golf.
You can buy some cheap Frisbees for two dollars at the cheap two dollar shops on Macquarie Street and then head down to Sandy Beach where there is a Frisbee golf course that takes you for a nice walk around the river.
5. Grab a Gelato and walk down to the pontoon.
Amazing gelatos are available from Monster Pizza (137 Macquarie Street) near St George Bank.
From there you can take a short walk down to the river and there’s a pontoon you can relax on or walk along the river walk.
