Editorial Policy

This site contains a mixture of articles and public comments. It contains personal opinions and reviews about places and services in Dubbo and therefore there will be people who may disagree with the content. Here is our policy regarding changing and removal of content.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

If there is a negative comment in the comments section about your business, please keep in mind that these are just comments, and they provide feedback that you may wish to take into consideration to improve your business. Most articles contain a mixture of both positive and negative opinions, and sometimes even a dialogue between two views, so please read the comment in context, and feel free to respond yourself by leaving a comment. Generally negative comments will not be removed unless they are offensive or out of place. If you wish to have a comment considered for removal please send us an email.

MODIFICATION OF ARTICLES

If you are a business owner who feels the information provided here is incorrect or out of date (opening hours, services provided etc) please email and the information will be corrected, but generally the articles are not modified at the request of business owners because they are reviews and as such they remain the opinion of the dubbo.org editors.

REMOVAL OF ARTICLES

Originally dubbo.org was providing honest reviews, both positive and negative. This led to a stream of emails from business owners who were upset by such reviews. Negative articles will be removed at the request of the business owner. But be warned – if you have asked for a review of your business to be removed because it was too negative, even if your business improves, it will not be added again at a later date at your request. If you want positive reviews you need to be prepared for constructive criticism as well.

ADDITION OF ARTICLES

If you have something you would like to see added, email a description or even a brief draft article. It will be considered for addition, but there may be a delay as it is checked out and the attraction will not be added unless it is good quality and worthy of mention!

Goonoo Conservation Area

goonoo1.jpgGoonoo Community Conservation Area is part of the Brigalow South Bioregion, 62,500 ha of vegetation surrounded by modified and cleared agricultural land. It is a very important refuge for our wildlife and rare plants. It is home to the nationally endangered Mallee Fowl as well as threatened species such as Turquoise Parrot, Speckled Warbler and Glossy black-cockatoo. A huge bushfire occurred in Feb 2007, burning over one third of the forest. However, after summer storms, regeneration is happening fast. Information regarding access etc is available from the National Parks Office in Macquarie Street, Dubbo.

Siamung Apes

apes.jpg

We were out at the Dubbo Zoo again last week and boy do the Siamung Apes put on a good show!

The more people the louder and longer they seem to go, and it was school holidays so it was a spectacular display of jumping round and hooting.

Fresh vegetables

Yuri is a character, he always gives you a very big thankyou and handshake after you buy from him and says ‘Thankyou for supporting us organic farmers.’ He has at least 4 different kinds of potatoes, great garlic, and a selection of other organic vegetables.

This herb and seedling stall is at the markets every fortnight.

Last week there were Tulips for sale in pots, must be a spring thing. I haven’t seen them before.

Saltbush Lamb

Saltbush lamb – the most tasty tenderest Lamb you’ve tasted.

My personal favourites: the cutlets and the mini roast racks. I don’t understand how it works, but if you ask them, they’ll give you a science lesson on how the acid or something in the saltbush makes the meat more tender.

Giraffe

zoo-giraffe.jpg

We think the giraffes are great, we often go and sit next to them and have lunch on the back of their enclosure. Western Plains Zoo has one of the largest herds of giraffe in Australia. The giraffe is an absolutely beautiful animal!

It’s worth seeing them being fed, they have a gigantic tongue that sticks out and wraps around their food. The feeding times are available on the map that you get when you enter the zoo.

What’s happening in Dubbo at the moment?

So what’s happening in Dubbo at the moment? It’s a wonderful mild summer, a great time of year to go to the zoo, maybe have a picnic lunch in Victoria Park, or go for an afternoon bike ride. We’ve had lots of rain so it’s quite green. The Dubbo Show is coming up on 25/26/25th April.

The Lime Grove

lime.jpg

The lime cordial from the Lime Grove is great. They make a fantastic marinade for chicken that you can sample for free at the markets, that has lime and soy sauce and some other goodies. And I won’t tell you how good their figs are because the less people that know, the more chance I have of getting some.

The lime grove itself is at Narromine, and they take tours. For more info check out the website at http://www.limegrove.net.au

Sourdough

Nice sourdough bread from Blackheath, at the Dubbo Farmer’s Markets most weeks. You have to get in really quick if you want to get some sourdough spelt bread. It always sells fast.

More Vegetables!

The potato man is a regular. He sells potatoes.

I don’t like these things, but they are big and fresh and there are lots of them.
